Praised by critics for her “sparkling stage presence”, “lyrical grace”, and “exceptional ability to spin out a delicate vocal line”, soprano Maria Alu has delighted audiences in such diverse roles as The Queen of the Night (Opera San Jose, The Baroque Orchestra of NJ), Gilda (Opera at Florham), Servilia (Empire Opera), Cleopatra (Baroque Orchestra of NJ) and Musetta (Opera at Florham, Longwood Opera).
Highlights of recent seasons include concert appearances with the Baroque Orchestra of NJ singing the virtuosic solo cantatas “Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen” (Bach) and “Exultate, jubilate” (Mozart), operatic roles with Little Opera Theater of New York (Alison in Gustav Holst’s The Wandering Scholar), dell’Arte Opera Ensemble (Soeur Constance in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites and Erste Dame in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte), and multiple performances as Isolde Goldentrill in Impresario Now! a unique evening of entertainment based on Mozart’s Impresario and presented in repertoire at the Laurie Beechman Theater by the Wendy Taucher Dance Opera Theater.
Maria has also appeared with Utah Symphony & Opera, Salt Marsh Opera, Annapolis Opera, West Bay Opera, Taconic Opera, Capitol Opera Raleigh, The Greater South Jersey Chorus, and The Princeton Festival, among others. The New Jersey native and current North Carolina resident is a graduate of the New England Conservatory (MM) and New York University (BM).
